Walled city of Carcassonne in Languedoc
PIERRE MOUËT de Moras... was born in 1639 in the medieval village of Castelsarrasin, Languedoc, France. In September of 1665, he arrived with the Carignan Regiment, Arnoult de Loubias Company. He was Officier de la Marine, an ensign of the company.
Not too much is known of the life of Pierre Mouët in Canada, except that he married Marie Toupin in April of 1668 in Trois Rivières and was established in 1669 on Ile Moras at the entrance of the Nicolet River where he lived as a farmer. This was undoubtedly a fief because he was known as Sieur de Moras (Squire of Moras). He would have been 30 years old at the time.
One of his younger sons, Michel Mouët, was involved in the fur trade and was given coveted permission (a passport) to travel to the Great Lakes in July of 1702 for the purpose of commerce. By virtue of Pierre Mouët's eldest son, Pierre marriage to Élisabeth Jutras, niece of Pierre-Esprit Radisson, it would seem the family was seriously involved, some members more than others, in the trade.
Pierre Mouët died in November of 1693 in Trois Rivières.
Mouët's oldest son, ancestor Pierre Mouët, born in November of 1669, was also known as the Sieur de Moras, a title which he inherited at his father's death in 1693. There is a note that young Pierre was appointed seigneur primitif de l'Ile de Moras 11-24-1693 (rough translation: original/first lord of the Isle of Moras.)
Young Pierre married Elisabeth Jutras, the niece of the famous coureur de bois, explorer and fur trader Pierre-Esprit Radisson, shortly after the elder Pierre's death, in April of 1694.
This couple died young... Élisabeth in May of 1705, 10 days after the birth of her daughter; Pierre three years later in 1708. She was 35. In 1708, he would be 38. They left six young children, the eldest being 13 years old, the youngest 3.
A tangled inheritance followed...
On 4-8-1713, five years after Pierre Mouët's death, his inheritors (children) sold their rights to their aunt, Pierre Mouët's youngest sister, 25-year old Thérèse Mouët Trottier.
On 4-27-1716 legal authorization was given to Marie Jutras, sister of Élisabeth Jutras and widow of Michel Poulin, to be guardian of the children of Pierre Mouet and Élisabeth Jutras. At this time, the eldest child would have been 21 and possibly married, the youngest 11.
On 4-26-1717 there was an authorization by Marie Jutras, sister of Élisabeth, widow of Michel Poulin, guardian of the children of the late Pierre Mouet and Élisabeth Jutras to François Sauvage and Marie-Françoise Mouet, his wife, to make the distribution of goods belonging to Pierre Mouet among his inheritors. (Marie-Françoise Mouet was the eldest child of Pierre Mouet and Élisabeth Jutras).
Two of young Pierre Mouet's daughters are in the Cameron line: Marie Josephte Mouet married to Joseph-Marie Pothier in January 1718, and Élisabeth Mouet who was born 10 days before her mother's death. She married Joseph Boulanger in 1728.
The genealogy...
Each indentation indicates another generation, ie: Pierre Mouët is the son of Pierre Mouët and Marie Toupin; Marie-Josephte Mouët is the daughter of Pierre Mouët and Élisabeth Jutras, and so on.
A carat (>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor, ie: Marie-Josephte Mouët has a sister, Élisabeth Mouët, who is also an ancestor.
