The homestead of Julienne Baril (first wife of Marin Boucher and mother of François Boucher). The house known as LaBarre is actually a collection of three row houses. The dwelling to the left is where Marin Boucher and Julienne Baril spent much of their married life.
Julienne Baril inherited the house and probably the land it is situated on in St. Langis, Normandy, from her parents.

MARIN BOUCHER... left France from Dieppe in April 1634 with a Robert Giffard group which included Jean Guyon, Zacharie Cloutier and Gaspard Boucher and his family.
Other family members who emigrated to Canada were:
Jeanne Boucher sister
Thomas Hayot brother-in-law
Geneviève Hayot nièce
Rodolphe Hayot nephew
Jean Hayot nephew
Perrine Mallet wife
Jean-Galleran Boucher son
Louis-Marin Boucher son
François Boucher son
In 1634, the settlement of Canada was under the authority of a French company, known as The 100 Associates. These were businessmen who ventured capital into the fur-trading enterprise in the hopes of commercial profits. The King of France sanctioned this activity with the stipulation that settlers be brought to Canada. To satisfy the King and minimize economic losses, the company resorted to the granting of subfiefs in Canada to 'seigneurs' (landlords) who were required to bring settlers. The first such grant was made to Robert Giffard who brought out workmen, farm laborers and artisans (masons, carpenters, surveyors, etc.). Marin Boucher was a mason. Note: This bit of history was taken from the book, "France in America" by W. J. Eccles, p. 34.
Along with about 25 other individuals, Marin Boucher arrived in Canada August 9, 1634 with his second wife and three children, 16-year old Francois, Louis-Marin dit Beaubisson and Jean-Galleran. He left five daughters in France.
They were: Nicole, age 23
Louise, age 21
Etienette, age 14
Charlotte, age 12
Marie, age 9
all children of his first marriage with Julienne DuBaril who died in December of 1627 when the youngest daughter, Marie, was three years old. Although it isn't stated anywhere one could imagine the property known as La Barre pictured above was willed to these young girls since it had been their mother's property. Only conjection.
Marin Boucher remarried a young woman, Perinne Malet around 1629. He was 40, she was 23 at the time. Together they had seven children, five of which are ancestors of mine. In all, six of Marin Boucher's children are direct ancestors in my family. From them, there are ten family lines that weave themselved into the fabric of what we are. After a stint with French-Canadian genealogy, it is easy to believe every face you meet in Québec is a distant cousin of sorts.
Marin Boucher and his family were listed on the 1666 Talon census as living in the Québec area. At that time, he was considered an habitant and a mason who was able to sign his name (was literate). His age was listed as about 78. His wife, Perinne Malet was listed as about 61 years old. Their eldest son Louis-Marin was about 36, not married and still living with his parents. He was a surveyor. The last son, 19-year old Guillaume, also unmarried at the time, was living in the household also. He was a wheelwright or cartmaker. Both sons were able to sign their names. The other children had long established in nearby households.
Marin Boucher died in Chateau Richer in March of 1671 at the age of 82. Perrine Malet died in Québec in August of 1687 at the about the same age.

A bit of history taken from "Our French-Canadian Ancestors " by Thomas J. Laforest; Volume 4, Chapter 7, Page 62
About an inheritance from Champlain, who died Christmas day 1635 and who certainly knew and walked the land with all of these early settlers from Le Perche. Surely, he was interested in their accomplishments relative to the village of Québec.
"I give to Marin, mason, living near the house of the Recollet Fathers, the last suit that I had made from material which I got at the store," wrote Champlain.
also a bit of personal information from the same source...
On August 24, 1638, Marin was called to give testimony on the circumstances of the voyage of Gaspard Boucher "his relative", who also arrived in 1634. We know that Marin first worked a piece of land that the Recollets had abandoned in 1629 following the surrender of Québec to the Kirke brothers. Later, he took a farm from his brother-in-law, Thomas Hayot on the land of the Jesuits at Beauport. On June 11, 1648, reports the Jesuit Journal, the two farmers separated. Hayot kept the farm and Boucher took a concession next to that of Olivier Tardif.
The genealogy...
Each indentation indicates another generation, ie: François Boucher is the son of Marin Boucher and Julienne Baril; Marie-Françoise Boucher is the daughter of François Boucher and Florence Gareman, and so on.
A carat (>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor, ie: Angélique Autin has a brother, Jean-François Autin who is also an ancestor.
A double carat (>>) indicates there is at least another sibling who is an ancestor at the next generational level, ie: Catherine Boucher (daughter of Pierre Boucher and Madeleine Dancosse) has a brother, Pierre Boucher who is also an ancestor.
